Long before writing Dingeltrot, Matt Goldman wrote for Seinfeld.
Dingeltrot is Matt Goldman’s first novel, but he has written for several television shows, the first of which was Seinfeld http://www.sonypictures.com/tv/shows/seinfeld/ , which starred Jerry Seinfeld, Jason Alexander, Michael Richards and Julia Louis Dreyfus. In 2002, TV Guide chose Seinfeld as the greatest show of all time.
Long before writing this book, Matt Goldman wrote two episodes of Seinfeld. “The Robbery” was nominated for a Writer’s Guild Award, and he co-wrote “The Stranded” with show creators Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David. Matt also served as a story editor on dozens of other Seinfeld episodes including “The Pen”, “The Parking Garage” and “The Pez Dispenser.”
Matt Goldman met Jerry Seinfeld when working as a stand-up comedian in Minneapolis. He opened for Jerry Seinfeld during a ten show run at The Comedy Gallery. Seinfeld and Goldman became friends, and Seinfeld very much liked a play entitled Bunk Bed Brothers that Goldman wrote with comedian/actor Pat Hazell. After the initial pilot was rejected by NBC, which did not include the character of Elaine, NBC gave the show another chance, ordering four more episodes of what was then called The Seinfeld Chonicles. Goldman served as a program consultant during those four episodes, then was promoted to story editor the following fall.
It’s often said that Seinfeld is about nothing, but the author of this book disagrees. “Seinfeld is about selfishness. What makes the Seinfeld show funny, is that the characters act on their selfishness when most people don’t, but secretly wish they could.”
